Stamford camp brings children around the globe together through music, dance, theater and more!
A Global Arts camp is taking place this week at the Palace Theatre in Stamford and bringing history books to life by teaching students about different cultures.
It's like taking a trip across the globe, except these students don't even have to leave Connecticut.
It gives them an opportunity to learn something new every day.
The camp brings history books to life for the kids through the experience of music, dance, theater, storytelling, and visual art. They seemingly travel to four cultures in four days without even leaving the state. Wednesday's destination happened to be Africa..
The camp is the brainchild of Symphony Space, a community theater in Manhattan that is now bringing their educators to the Stamford region. "We have the same mission as Symphony Space, where we want to be inclusive, serve the community, and bring different cultures together, " said Carol Bryan, director of education at the Palace Theatre.
Approximately 45 students from Fairfield and Westchester counties are taking part in the program, which is all at no cost to their families.
The Palace Theatre says it's hoping to offer the camp to more students next summer.
In Lak'Ech founder and executive director, Leslie Spalding, in collaboration with Symphony Space's Global Arts Camp, teaching African drumming to underprivileged children at Palace Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut.
